Hello love,

So we all want quick fixes, especially when it comes to things that feel really painful, like emotional eating. And I get it. I tried all of the quick fixes I could find when I was going through my own emotional eating journey.

I tried the diets, I tried the personal trainers. I tried the detoxes, the sprints, all of the things I could get my hands on, even therapy, and it didn’t help me shift this pattern.

And while they might feel helpful for a little while because you feel like you have a sense of agency, they quickly fall to the wayside when you get triggered and you’re back in your emotional eating spiral.

So let’s dive in and talk about why these quick fixes don’t actually help you resolve your emotional eating and what does.

I get it. It’s really frustrating when you try all of these things, hoping they’re going to shift your emotional eating and you end up feeling like a failure. You end up feeling like you couldn’t fix yourself. I did this for many years, and I see my clients going through the same cycle. They try all of these quick fixes, time and time again, over years, over decades, until they finally realize it doesn’t work.

Quick fixes feel really attainable. It’s 14 days. It’s a couple of weeks, it’s a month. It feels a doable, it’s not a long stretch of time, and that’s what makes you feel like, oh, I can have control, I can use willpower for the next 14 days for the next month, I can do this. And it makes you feel like, I’m going to finally have that control I’ve been longing for around food and get myself to a place where I don’t feel out of control, where I don’t fall into the shame spiral.

But emotional eating was never really about the food or controlling food or your body. It’s deeper, it’s about unmet needs, unresolved emotions, triggers, and stress. And so when you hit a wall of stress, triggers  and unprocessed emotions, when you’re in one of these containers, you will be derailed.

You’ll fall back into your old coping mechanism and feel like a failure.
