What if your relationship to your body is contributing to your emotional eating?

Because if you’re struggling with emotional eating and you’re unhappy with your body, you might think, “If only I could lose the weight. If only my body looked a different. Then I wouldn’t feel this way anymore.”

And I used to believe that too.

I thought if I could finally change my body, I’d finally feel good enough, and all of this noise would go away. But what I eventually discovered was that being at war with my body was actually keeping me stuck in my emotional eating.

And today I want to tell you why.

I don’t believe we’re born hating our bodies or criticizing our bodies or thinking something’s wrong with our body.

But for as long as I could remember, the way my body looked, how much I ate or didn’t eat, and how I looked was a topics of conversation around me.

When I was really young, apparently I wasn’t eating enough, so I was given medication to eat more. And as I went to grade school and got older, there were comments about my body. I felt too big.

I was also very self critical and thought, if I only looked the right way, then I’d finally be loved and accepted.

And that kind of makes sense if I look at my history with the comments that were made about my body, whether I was eating enough or not eating enough. It just felt like I just wasn’t good enough at the end of the day.

That’s what a child is going to take away from these experiences and what I did as well.
