Paying it forward with food…could I ask for anything more?

A few weeks ago I had a few girlfriends over to share with them some of my nutritional know how. I sent out a message about creating healthy desserts hoping to lure in a few friends and it worked; it worked too well. Now I have to do a follow-up class but I’m not...

How to sprout lentils!

by Michelle | Oct 14, 2012 | Diet/Lifestyle, Gluten free, Health, Healthy Tips, Raw, Recipes, Sprouting

Lately I have been sprouting lentils and adding them to my lunch salads. They give my salad an extra bit of density with their starchiness plus they are packed full of fibre, pre-digested protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals! I have written about sprouting...

The real reason you emotionally eat. Guess what i The real reason you emotionally eat.

Guess what it’s not because you have no willpower and can’t resist the snacks in the cupboard.

It because you have unresolved emotions that are triggered making you seek out food to soothe.

Those unresolved emotions are traumas and they start from a young age.

If you don’t know how to move through them and resolve them, you will continue to cope with food.

But food cannot meet your emotional needs.

In order to resolve your emotional eating you need to get to heal the emotional root, connect back to food and your body.

This is what we do inside of The Emotional Eaitng Evolution Program so you can get to ease and peace.

If you’d like to get started on resolving your emotional eating then grab my free guide to start catching your pattern. Comment or DM “guide” and I’ll send it over!
Why You Have Food Noise – And How to Finally Quiet Why You Have Food Noise – And How to Finally Quiet It (For Emotional Eating)

Do you ever feel like you’re constantly thinking about food? You’re planning your next meal. You’re thinking, “is this food good or bad”? You’re constantly obsessing about food. There isn’t a moment when something about food doesn’t go through your head.

You walk past the mirror and think, “oh my god, I need to go on a diet”. And, you think about what you ate at your last meal and you feel guilty.
It’s exhausting.

This is what many people call food noise. And today I want to talk to you about where this food noise comes from for emotional eaters so you can understand what’s actually causing it – and realize that it’s not because you lack willpower.

Food noise is this constant chatter in your head. You always questioning what you’re eating, whether you should eat, whether you’re actually hungry.

In my experience, this food noise comes from two places when you’re an emotional eater.

Let’s dive in. Comment or DM ‘food noise” and I’ll send over the full video✨
A.N.’s journey to resolving her emotional eating a A.N.’s journey to resolving her emotional eating and nightly ice cream binges.

When A.N. came to me she had tried a few programs + therapy to resolve her emotional eating. She was drawn to The Emotional Eating Evolution Program because it felt like a journey & something she needed after having body image issues + emotional eating for a few decades.

As A.N. moved through the program at points she felt she was failing and wanted to give up. This is where support and accountability are key.

She committed, followed the steps, showed up and asked for help.

A.N.’s nightly bingeing on ice cream resolved after the 1st somatic session and using the nourishment strategies a few weeks into the program.

It’s not a linear journey, by the mid point things came to a head and felt like she was going backwards BUT it is a HUGE breakthrough moment. A.N. was seeing where she was hiding with food, didn’t have boundaries, been taking on too much, etc…

She kept on going and got to the other side.

Through the program she:

👉🏽had more ease with food and nourished herself
👉🏽 moved away from the diet rules that made her feel shame and spiralled her into more emotional eating
👉🏽saw how chasing “the body” was hiding her deeper need for acceptance and started meeting it beyond her body size
👉🏽her nightly binges on ice cream ended
👉🏽 got in touch with her true need for acceptance and saw a shift in how she felt about her body and in relationships
👉🏽found her triggers and has the tools to resolve them

A.N. felt more connected to herself, what she needed and started taking the steps to live more as who she is :)

There’s a specific pattern I see over and over aga There’s a specific pattern I see over and over again with women and it happens at 2 very specific times when we work together to heal their emotional eating. Today I’ll talk about the first.

The first time I see this pattern is when a woman signs up to a clarity call with me. She makes it through fear hurdle #1 - booking the call (which is free and no strings attached).

We talk about her journey and if she is ready to get help. I hear the defeat in her voice, learn about the actions holding her back in her day to day life. Sometimes there are tears. Usually her emotional eating has been going on for years.

And it can feel like relief that someone finally gets it and can help.

Then I mention the program, the commitment and the investment.

And that voice of fear comes in without skipping a beat. It sounds logical…
-It’s not the right time, school is starting, I’m going on vacation, etc
-I can’t invest right now.
-I have too much going on. I’ll wait until life calms down.
Etc.

The moment you were given the opportunity to change this painful pattern your brain did something.

Did you catch it?

It started to convince you that staying the same was better than change. It created a fear, an excuse.

Your brain’s job is to save you energy (change takes energy) and that it means it’s going to convince you to stay in the same familiar hell rather than change.

Your job is to know the difference between genuine clarity and excuses from fear.

When you can’t discern this we stay stuck. And usually the pain of staying the same eventually becomes too excruciating, and forces us to change.

Your job is the move through or walk with the fear.

Let me know - have you noticed this in yourself? Comment below✨
Why You Can’t Lose Weight Until You Heal the Stres Why You Can’t Lose Weight Until You Heal the Stress Beneath Emotional Eating👇🏽

So have you ever felt like you’re doing everything right? You’re taking the supplements, working out, you’re trying to reduce your stress.

And yet your body still feels stuck.

The weight won’t budge. Your digestion feels off, you’re still emotional eating.

What if the missing piece isn’t another diet, exercise plan or even talk therapy?

What if it’s really about the unresolved emotional stress your body has been carrying for years?

I want to start by saying something: I don’t love making weight loss the main reason to heal emotional eating.

Because healing emotional eating is so much more than the number on the scale.

But I also know that a lot of women that come to me notice the weight gain along with their emotional eating. And they often blame themselves. They think, “If only I could get the calories in and the calories out to a match, so then I could lose the weight. I just need to eat less and move more.”

But it’s not that simple when you’re an emotional eater.

Let’s dive in. Comment or DM “stress” and I’ll send over the full video✨
Here’s how being at war with your body is triggeri Here’s how being at war with your body is triggering emotional eating👇🏽

You’re not born hating your body.

We learn that parts of us are not acceptable by comments from our parents or caregivers, friends or society. We learn in order to get love, acceptance or attention we need to fit into this box.

For as long as I could remember how I ate and my body was a topic. It never felt good enough. I remember in grade 4 thinking “if I only looked THIS was then I’d be loved and accepted”.

Because I wasn’t taught how to feel this on the inside.

I also used food to soothe myself when I didn’t feel good enough. This escalated in high school. I’d restrict and also eat all the cookies when I was sad.

When I finally got to the body I thought would give me “acceptance” through intense workouts and restriction it only lasted a few months until I was back to my old habits.

Because the outside validation eventually wanes and you turn to food to soothe when you don’t feel good enough. Having the body you want doesn’t heal the root of emotional eating.

The internal war was too much. I stumbled upon an exercise to shift how I viewed my body. This was the start of body acceptance.

When I could no longer force my body to change I needed to change how I felt.

I didn’t like or love every part of my body but that critical voice softened.

This acceptance stopped my body shame triggers that led to emotional eating.

Through acceptance my body started to transform to reflect how I felt on the inside. I had more energy, better digestion, and my body released weight it no longer needed.

Is this holding you back from healing your emotion Is this holding you back from healing your emotional eating?

I had a client who took plant medicine to help her with how she felt about food and her emotional eating.

She felt connected and at one with the universe but the medicine also told her to learn to create that feeling in the real world.

Even this powerful plant knew that to live in this world we need a process, steps to move through emotions to get to peace.

That taking a drug to find relief doesn’t give us what we need.

And it’s so true for emotional eating. We think it’s about food but the root of emotional eating is about triggered emotions, unprocessed emotions and unresolved emotions.

While I’ve had clients use anti-depressants it doesn’t quite numb out emotions (or stop emotional eating).

And we don’t want to numb emotions. Emotions are information about our experience in life. They are important.

From the pleasant to unpleasant ones. But when we are dismissed, shamed or ignored when we have them we feel shame so we hide them or cope with them by using food to numb us from their sensations.

But we need to move through them to release them otherwise they live in the body as pain, tension, contraction.

When we feel them we hear their message and can use it in our life.

But what I find with my clients is that they learned to use food because they didn’t learn to feel. And in some cases feeling meant they would be punished.

That’s a lot going on under food. So while food is a piece of the puzzle this is even deeper.

This is part of what we do inside of The Emotional Eating Evolution Program with a step by step process, support, guidance and the deeper somatic work needed to shift this pattern so you can get to ease and peace around food and in your body.

If you’re ready to resolve your emotional eating book in a clarity call to see how I can help you. DM “clarity” to chat✨
I Know My Triggers – Why Am I Still Emotionally Ea I Know My Triggers – Why Am I Still Emotionally Eating?

Have you ever thought, “I know exactly why I emotionally eat, but I’m still doing it?”

You know it’s stress, you know it’s loneliness. You know you feel overwhelmed. But why are you still emotionally eating?

If you’ve ever felt frustrated that awareness hasn’t created change for you, then this video is for you.

A lot of my clients come to me and they say, “I’ve been in therapy. I know why I emotionally eat. I remember experiences from when I was a child. I know my patterns.”

But there are new nuances and bigger pieces that are still missing. That’s what I see.

This can leave many of my clients feeling confused because they feel like they already know what they emotionally eat. They may think, “If I already know why I emotionally eat, why am I still struggling with my triggers?”

Just because you know why you emotionally doesn’t mean you’ve found the deeper root of it. And it doesn’t mean you’ve accessed the deeper root to heal it either.

LEt’s dive in and explore how to actually shift your emotional eating so you can feel at ease and confidence around food and in your body. Comment or DM “triggers” and I’ll send over the full video✨
Are you sabotaging yourself with food (or really t Are you sabotaging yourself with food (or really trying to help yourself?)

On the surface when you’re in an emotional eating spiral it feels like the sh*t hit the fan.

You’re out of control with food. Again.

And you feel like a failure.

What if I told you that you weren’t failing, that you were doing the only thing you know to do when you feel stressed, emotionally overwhelmed and uncomfortable. Which is to eat.

You’re automatically doing the only thing that has worked to help you soothe yourself and get back to some semblance of calm.

You’re trying to help yourself in the best way you “know” how.

I get it, it isn’t healthy. But it’s subconscious, automatic, annoying and the way you learned to cope (with food).

Now, when you realize this maybe you’ll have a bit more compassion for yourself and try to resolve this pattern vs. bully or bulldoze yourself with willpower or shame.

This is a hard one for my clients because in the first few weeks of working with me I see how they keep thinking “ugh I’m a failure why can’t I stop eating?”. And I really need to keep telling them this is what they’ve learnt and now we are learning and embodying what they really needed - to move through their emotions.

To be honest, that takes some time. For some more time than others. Because they really need to “get” that food is what they run too instead of being with their emotions.

And I get it - it can be scary and feel unsafe to be with emotions. Maybe if you expressed emotions you were punished. That’s why it’s helpful to work with someone to help you create safety, to resource and help you gradually build up the strength and capacity to move through your emotions that are running your emotional eating pattern.

This is part of what we do inside of The Emotional Eating Evolution Program with 1:1 somatic work, guided meditations and a step by step process to get you to ease and peace around food and in your body in a sustainable way.

If you are ready to resolve this pattern at the root then book in an Emotional Eating Clarity call to see how I can support you. DM “program” to connect✨
