Hello love,

A lot of women who struggle with emotional eating believe that food freedom means being able to eat whatever you want.

But that’s not true freedom – it’s just another way food can control you.

Real food freedom comes from healing the root of emotional eating. That’s the doorway to true sovereignty around food.

Before I was helping women with their emotional eating, I was struggling with my own emotional eating. I never thought I would be helping women with this pattern. I was very much on a trajectory in science, in teaching, and I thought that’s where I needed to be.

But as I began to heal my emotional eating, I realized how all these different paths were interconnected.

Looking back, my struggles with food began at a young age and deepened in high school. I swung between extremes—restricting and barely eating to giving in and eating whatever I wanted.

At the core of it, my drive to restrict was fueled by the belief that if I could finally fit into a perfect box – look a certain way, reach a certain weight – I’d feel confident, accepted, and at ease in my life.

But even when I got there, the relief was fleeting. None of it helped resolve the root of my emotional eating.

Let’s dive in:

  • 1:50 Hitting rock bottom: the food pendulum swing to “freedom,” moving to Korea, and spiraling deeper into emotional eating
  • 3:14 A new country, facing bigger triggers, and finally realizing I was an emotional eater (I know…)
  • 3:50 When the pattern began shifting toward food sovereignty
  • 4:14 What food sovereignty really is and how it’s different from food freedom
  • 7:14 Client story: from burgers and fries to craving fruits and veggies (who am I?)
  • 7:57 Breaking free from the pendulum of “freedom” and “restriction” and finding balance with food
  • 8:47 Client story: from feeling triggered at dinner to feeling sovereign around food
