So what actually changes when you heal your emotional eating beyond just food and your body? It’s not just about stopping bingeing or eating “normally”.

It’s really about having more ease, peace, inner confidence – and the sense of sovereignty and freedom.

What I often see happens, and maybe you resonate with this,  is you see someone eating and it looks so normal to them. They can have some pasta, they can have a piece of chocolate, and not eat the whole thing. They can just let it sit there.

I remember when I was struggling with emotional eating, I would look to these women and think, “I just want that”. I just want to feel that ease and peace around food and in my body – to not eat everything and hunt for it. I wanted to feel okay, and like food wasn’t controlling me.

What I eventually experienced, as I resolved my emotional eating, was getting to a place where I wasn’t obsessed with food. I wasn’t constantly thinking about. I wasn’t micromanaging it. There was no urgency. I could naturally stop eating, and I see this with my clients as well.

What I also noticed in my body was that there was less criticism and more acceptance. I felt more connected to my body. I felt more energized in my body. I could actually settle into my body.

I also noticed that there was a space where before, there would be this constant chatter and “food noise”, now it was more quiet. There was actual space for other thoughts, for other goals, for moving forward in my life.

What happened in my life was that I had more energy for my goals. I could actually move forward. I was more present, not thinking “I need to get the food or I need to eat”. I could eat slowly. I could have a conversation. I wasn’t hiding. I wasn’t feeling ashamed. I could go out and eat and feel okay.

Food no longer dictated my life.

Of course, we still have to think about food, we have to eat, but it’s not this constant obsession to micromanage or a problem to solve.
