Why Acceptance Is the Missing Key to Healing Emoti Why Acceptance Is the Missing Key to Healing Emotional Eating

If you’ve been trying to fix your emotional eating by controlling it, stopping it, or just getting rid of it – and it’s still there, this might be the reason why.

What if the thing you’ve been resisting is actually the doorway to your healing?

A lot of women that I work with are very self aware. They’ve gone to therapy, and tried many things to resolve their emotional eating. They usually know it’s not hunger.

And every time that they emotionally eat, they tell themselves “I shouldn’t be doing this. What’s wrong with me?”

Of course, what follows is shame, guilt, and feeling like you’re broken. That then triggers even more emotional eating, and you’re back in the cycle.

Naturally, the instinct might be: I need more discipline. I need to control this. I need to solve this. But what if that’s what’s keeping the cycle going – at least in part?

Check out the full video on why acceptance is the missing key to resolving your emotional eating. Comment or DM “acceptance” and I’ll send over the full video✨
How to identify your emotional eating triggers W How to identify your emotional eating triggers

When “triggers” is used in emotioanl eating most women talk about their trigger food.

I can’t have m&ms in the house
I will eat all the cake
The bag of chips just disappeared.

They blame the food as if it made they spiral into emotional eating.

Here’s the tricky part…emotional eating is nuanced.

If you are hungry and eat processed food, you can binge because the food is not satisfying your hunger so your body says “eat more, we didn’t receive enough nutrients”.

BUT if you’re genuinely triggered into emotional eating, you most likely will grab the processed foods to soothe but you can also eat a bunch of healthy cereal and feel sick to your stomach.

Emotional eating is not really about the food, because you weren’t truly hungry.

So catching your triggers means you need to know when it’s emotional hunger and checking to see what triggered it.

The cart before the horse if you will because it wasn’t the food it was something else that made you want the food to soothe.

This is step one to resolving emotional eating and if you’d like to guide on how to catch your triggers then comment or DM “triggers” and i’ll send it over✨
Why you’re stuck with emotional eating… When I’m Why you’re stuck with emotional eating…

When I’m working with women they have tried it all…from the practical to the emotional to heal their emotional eating.

What’s missing is that they are not looking at all the layers.

We need to do both; the tangible practical steps and the deeper emotional/trauma work.

So I have a client who had done doctor assisted psychedelics to heal her trauma and grief but she was still stuck in emotional eating.

And i’ve had clients who follow diets to a T and are still stuck because they haven’t done the deeper work.

For each person you need to look at all the layers and see what combination of healing they need.

I really dislike piecemealing things together that don’t account for what’s going on because that was the frustration on my journey when I was struggling with emotional eating.

If you’d like the first step to resolving your emotional eating then DM or comment “free guide” and I’ll send it over✨
What Actually Changes When You Heal Emotional Eati What Actually Changes When You Heal Emotional Eating (Beyond Just Food)

What I often see happens, and maybe you resonate with this, is you see someone eating and it looks so normal to them. They can have some pasta, they can have a piece of chocolate, and not eat the whole thing. They can just let it sit there.

I remember when I was struggling with emotional eating, I would look to these women and think, “I just want that”. I just want to feel that ease and peace around food and in my body – to not eat everything and hunt for it. I wanted to feel okay, and like food wasn’t controlling me.

Food no longer dictated my life.

Check out this video to see what shifted for my clients:

Kelly: From bingeing daily, and being triggered -> to no emotional eating and speaking up at work

Miranda: From nightly cookie and candy bouts -> to no emotional eating and increased self worth.

Nilda: From emotional eating and not being able to let go of foods -> resolving emotional eating, craving vegetables and socializing on her own.

Who I had to become to shift my emotional eating…. Who I had to become to shift my emotional eating….

I had to become the person who could meet my needs on a deep level.

1. That meant I wasn’t restricting food and malnourishing myself.

I started noticing my body’s cues for food and making choices that satisfied my true hunger.

Because of this connection to my body, “off limit” foods were allowed but I would get a clear signal when to stop eating them.

This stopped a lot of my binges that were caused by restriction.

2. I had to stop criticizing my body and trying to make it fit into a box because I was seeking external validation.

That meant accepting my body, not necessary liking it. It also meant I listened to my body’s needs for movement and rest.

This helped me stop spiralling into emotional eating to soothe the shame I felt around my body.

3. I had to meet my emotional needs and heal my triggers and wounds one by one that I was using food to soothe.

This helped me heal the hole I tried to fill with food.

Food then became food, my body my body and that created a sense of peace, ease and calm around food and in my body that finally felt like an exhale in my body.

If you’d like to start resolving your emotional eating from the root like I did then grab my free guide. It’s the first step I give to clients to help resolve their emotional eating. Comment or DM “guide” and I’ll send it over✨
Why you have obsessive thoughts about food 👇🏽 If Why you have obsessive thoughts about food 👇🏽

If we go back to when your emotional eating began your brain realized that food would give it temporary relief from uncomfortable emotions.

And the brain loves efficiency so it makes this an automatic pattern because it doesn’t want you to waste energy thinking “I’m in pain let me go to food”.

When the pattern is automatic you go from pain to food in seconds without realizing it. It makes you feel like you are possessed.

So in your day to day life those thoughts of food pop up when you are avoiding some type of discomfort or emotion. (When it’s emotional eating).

So how do you stop the loop?

You need to become aware of your pattern, and see when it’s true vs. emotional hunger. Then you need to resolve the root of the trigger with deeper work.

This is a process and it isn’t solved in one session. It requires a committment because this pattern has been there for years and decades. This is what we do inside of The Emotional Eating Evolution Program.

If you’d like to start resolving this pattern so it shifts then grab my free guide to discern true from emotional hunger and to start catching your triggers. Comment or DM “guide” and I’ll send it over✨
Why You’re Still Struggling With Emotional Eating Why You’re Still Struggling With Emotional Eating (Even After Doing All the Things)?

So maybe you’ve gone to therapy. You understand your triggers. You’re not new to your emotional eating pattern. Maybe you’ve tried intuitive eating, you’ve done the work, and you’re still feeling frustrated.

I’ve had women come to me who have tried everything to help their emotional eating; emotional eating programs, therapy, intuitive eating, different diets, personal training, etc.

They have done psychedelics, trauma therapy – they’re trying to piece everything together to help themselves. And what I find, time and time again, is that all the layers of emotional eating aren’t being addressed.

Even if you’ve tried some of these approaches and they’ve lessened your emotional eating, in order to fully resolve this pattern, you need everything working together. You can’t keep piecemealing it.

Check out the video to see what is really needed to resolve your emotional eating. Comment or DM “all” and I’ll send over the full video✨
What I had to let go of to heal my emotional eatin What I had to let go of to heal my emotional eating…

I had to let go of my attachment to having “the body” that I thought would give me the love, validation and acceptance I was craving to feel worthy.

Because when I couldn’t stick to the diet, saw my image and didn’t look the “right” way it would spiral me back to emotional eating.

To be honest I tried for a long time to get to “the body”, years, decades.

But when I got there, the attention was short lived. No amount of compliments could fill the hole and my emotional eating came back.

I knew then I needed to do something different because I got to where I wanted and still felt the same.

So I started nourishing my body, dropping the restrictive mindset with food , accepted my body and dropped the intense focus on the scale and healed my deeper triggers and wounds that would make me self sabotage.

And even though it was hard to let go of getting to “that body”.

But my body started to change - better digestion, more energy, motivation and I released weight.

But that wasn’t the point. I was now at ease in my body and sovereign around food. And the byproduct was the body I was chasing all those years arrived but from a different place.

So if you’d like to start shifting your emotional eating then grab my free guide for the first step I give to clients. Comment or Dm “guide” and I’ll send it over✨
How I got my client Miranda to stop her emotional How I got my client Miranda to stop her emotional eating👇🏽

“I felt stagnant. Like I was going through the motions and just trying to exist.”

Miranda had reached here breaking point when she came to me to help her resolve her emotional eating. She was sick of hiding her emotional eating and feeling shame. She had gone to therapy in the past but this pattern was still coming up.

She signed up for the program, invested and took the next steps.

How did she do it?

➡She kept her commitment to herself and started the program even as she went through an unexpected breakup and had to move.

➡She showed up each week and to office hours to gain clarity, keep up momentum to move past her resistance. She also followed the step by step process.

➡She started to see how connected her eating habits were to how she was feeling and seeing the patterns. And the support and tools to shift them. She started to feel good in her body and empowered and that motivated her to continue.

➡We dove deeper with private somatic sessions that healed her emotional eating at the root in the body.

During the program she started to feel...

✨In control

✨Free

✨Not restricted around food, having a relationship to food like the French

✨She had a deeper connection to the food she ate.

✨Was more energized (no 3pm slump) and motivated to discover herself.

Miranda had a lot happen in the span of the program but she showed up. And that translated to not having emotional eating episodes after the first few weeks of the program. Years later Miranda is still free of emotional eating.

Sometimes we say it’s not the right time, but in life keeps on life-ing, as in Miranda’s case.

If you want to have the relationship to food and your body you desire filled with more freedom and ease then learn more about working with us in The Emotional Eating Evolution Program via the link in my bio @lallnutrition
