It’s Not Always What You’re Eating that Triggers E It’s Not Always What You’re Eating that Triggers Emotional Eating - It’s the Way You’re Thinking

Have you ever eaten something and immediately spiralled? It wasn’t really about the food - It was what you were saying to yourself about it after that spiralled you.

Emotional eating isn’t always triggered by the food you’re eating. It’s triggered by the thoughts you’re thinking about what you’re eating.

Because when you judge what you ate, it creates shame. And that shame triggers how you feel about yourself.

So today we’re going to dive into how the way you’re thinking about food can be triggering your emotional eating.

Let’s dive in. Comment “thinking” and I’ll send you the full video✨
Does looking in the mirror trigger your emotional Does looking in the mirror trigger your emotional eating?

Have you walked past the mirror and said something awful to yourself.

Or been in a change-room and your mind starts criticizing you and you feel that heat of shame and run home to order take out?

So you now feel badly about your body, and even feel worse for spiralling into emotional eating.

You think “how did I even get here?”

You’re doing the diets, the exercise, the programs.

But they aren’t getting to the root. There’s no real change.

Looking in the mirror is bringing up shame and that feeling of not being good enough which triggers emotional eating.

Because food is the only way you’ve learned to soothe this discomfort.

To shift the pattern you need resolve the root. To use your triggers and get to the bottom and start meeting your emotional needs. This is how we shift this pattern so you can get to ease and peace around food and in your body.

If you’d like to catch your triggers comment “free guide” and I’ll send over the first step I give to clients.✨
I wanted to share a client case study of RA’s befo I wanted to share a client case study of RA’s before and after The Emotional Eating Evolution Program.

My client RA joined the program after feeling frustrated, discouraged, out of control, confused and sad. She had tried various diets, workouts, and a food freedom program to help with her emotional eating that spanned a couple of decades. She was also in intensive therapy and nothing had worked to shift her Emotional Eating.

She would binge on low calorie foods and could feel she was just putting a band-aid on her long standing issues. Because of her upbringing she was turning to food to heal her emotions.

AFTER

* “The program made me more aware of why I was turning to food and helped dive deep into the areas of my life that needed to be healed.

* “The program also gave me tools to use to help me continue to learn how to not turn to food when I’m feeling emotional or sad.”

* “I feel a lot more hopeful, aware and that I have the tools to tackle the binge eating.”

* “I’ve noticed that I’m more comfortable in my body.”

“Working with Michelle helped me understand the root of my emotional eating and gave me the tools to break patterns that began in my childhood. I’m excited to continue applying what I’ve learned and to take meaningful steps toward caring for my body.”

Resolving Emotional Eating is a journey and once you understand the root and have the tools there is no looking back. While in the 12 week container RA was able to see a shift in her emotional eating by following the step by step process, being supported, having weekly guidance and resolving the root with the in depth tools like somatic meditations. She can now recognize triggers and use the tools to resolve them, meet her true needs and not use food as a band-aid.

Trauma & Emotional Eating: Why It’s Not What You T Trauma & Emotional Eating: Why It’s Not What You Think (And Why It Doesn’t Have to Be Scary)

Today we’re going to talk about how trauma impacts your emotional eating.

So when people hear the word trauma, they often think of something catastrophic, and they don’t want to talk about it.

But trauma is not a bad word, and trauma is on a spectrum. Yes, of course, sometimes trauma can be obvious and big, but there are subtler forms of trauma as well.

And I really love to talk about trauma, but for most of the world, this is a very scary word. I want to demystify trauma for you today because if we’re not looking in this direction to help with your emotional eating, we are not doing your pattern justice.

If you can really understand what trauma is, it’s going to help you see that you’re not damaged, and that you’re actually quite intelligent and that you learned a way to adapt to your situations and to your environment.

So let’s dive in and talk about the connection between trauma and emotional eating and how to use that to resolve this pattern.

Comment or DM “resolve” and I’ll send you the full video✨
I can’t believe I spiralled with food after work a I can’t believe I spiralled with food after work again…

Stopped in to grab a few pastries
Stopped to get cookies and didn’t realize they were gone when I got home

Those are some of the examples from women I’ve worked with.

They all seem to have this sudden urge on the daily to get a treat.

Only to feel like something took them over and they are left with a shame hangover.

And it keeps on happening.

You might think you did all the “right” things but emotioanl eating is nuanced.

There are usually 2 things at play when you feel out of control with food.

1. You might be restricting yourself with food and not realizing it. Maybe even going long stretches without eating or taking a break.
2. If it’s not the first one then it’s usually eating triggered by emotions and stress.

Emotional eating is not a straight line. There are many layers at play beyond what I’ve shared. That’s why it’s good to have guidance and support so that you can see your blind spots.

If you’d like support in resolving your emotional eating from the root so you can get to ease and confidence around food then book in an Emotional Eating Clarity call the see how I can help. Link in bio or DM “clarity” to connect✨
Why you feel like something possessed you when you Why you feel like something possessed you when you emotional eat.

It’s feels like you’re watching a scary movie except you are the main character. You feel like something took possession of your body. You’re watching yourself go to the fridge, grab food, eat it and it goes on and on.

You can’t seem to press to off switch no matter how much you try.

Or how much you know you “shouldn’t” be having this food.

Your emotional eating has been triggered.

And besides feeling like you have no control you also sink into that shame spiral.

Why does this happen? Well emotional eating is a coping mechanism that when triggered has 95% power over your actions.

Because it’s subconscious, the conscious you is watching this happen. It’s like watching your heart beat and not being able to stop it.

But unlike your heart, you can shift this pattern with emotional eating though a process.

I teach this to clients inside of The Emotional Eating Evolution Program 3-phase framework.

1. True Nourishment to discern true from emotional hunger and catch your triggers
2. Shift to Body Acceptance and reduce shame spirals that trigger emotioanl eating
3. Resolve the root of your emotional eating pattern using somatic meditations with psychotherapy tools for your specific roots.

This is what shifts the pattern so you can start feeling ease and peace around food and in your body as a natural byproduct.

If you’d like to resolve your pattern book in a free clarity call to see how The EEE Program can support you. DM “clarity” to chat✨
Why Emotional Eating Is a Regulation Strategy (Not Why Emotional Eating Is a Regulation Strategy (Not a Food Problem)

If you’ve tried dieting, therapy, willpower, intuitive eating and you’re still turning to food, then this is for you.

Because emotional eating isn’t a food problem. It’s a regulation strategy.

And once you start to understand that, everything starts to make sense.

If you’re like most women who struggle with emotional eating, you feel like you need to control food. You need to control your body. You need more discipline. You need a better meal plan.

But emotional eating isn’t happening because you don’t know what to eat. It’s happening because your nervous system is dysregulated because certain emotions are being triggered and coming to the surface.

And food has become one of the fastest ways you know how to regulate your internal system to get back to calm, to feel soothed and to stop feeling like you’re out of control.

Let’s dive in to see how to resolve this because food was not made to regulate you. Comment or DM “regulation” and I’ll send you the full video✨
Red flags that tell me you’re still in diet mental Red flags that tell me you’re still in diet mentality that triggers emotional eating.

I was recently speaking to a woman who said she knew a lot about eating disorders but was still emotional eating.

As we were talking about her pattern I asked her when she would emotional eat and if she knew it was emotional eating or that she was restricting.

She said a few things - sometimes she makes a “nourishing meal” that looks like a healthy meal with dessert and all the things. She also said she was allowing herself to eat more based on her personal trainer suggestions.

In all of this I didn’t hear her mention that the meal was satisfying to her body or if she could tell when she was triggered into emotional eating.

What I heard was: I am following the rules of what “should” be healthy but I don’t actually know in my body if that is what I need, if it’s true hunger or emotional. It’s a sneaky way diet mentality is still running the show.

I’m not going to throw nutrition out the window but the missing piece is YOUR body. When we keep trying to adhere to a plan without seeing if it’s right for us, we shame ourselves when we can’t stick to it. Shame triggers emotional eating.

If you’d like a tangible way to see if you’re truly hungry or triggered into emotional hunger then grab my free guide. Comment or DM “guide” and I’ll send it over.
Why weightloss shouldn’t be your goal when you emo Why weightloss shouldn’t be your goal when you emotional eat AND getting to “your healthy” without restriction.

What I find with my clients is that their weightloss is fuelled by chasing acceptance and validation.

On the surface they may say things like “ I want to get healthy” “ I want my body to reflect my activity”.

But deeper down the belief running the show is “I’m not good enough until I reach this weight”. Which is shaming and spirals you into emotional eating, and keeps your body in fight or flight mode which make you hold onto weight.

I get it - this was my motivation as well until I dieted my way to the “right body” and the acceptance, validation and compliments eventually ended and I went right back to food.

When you heal emotional eating at the root and address the layers to this pattern weightloss can be the natural byproduct because your body is not stupid, it just requires the right conditions.

We work through this using the framework in The Emotional Eating Evolution Program through True Nourishment, Body Acceptance and Emotional Wellness.

If you’d like to get started on the first step I give to clients comment “free guide” and I’ll send it to you✨
