So how do you actually get to ease and peace around food and in your body?

Maybe you’ve spent years trying to control food to create peace, but it hasn’t worked. You thought if you finally got to the certain place physically, you’d finally feel okay. And the noise would stop.

One of the things I’ve learned is that your out of control relationship to food and your body is not necessarily about food and your body. It’s really about how you feel about yourself and whether you feel loved, accepted, and approved of.

One part of you feels like you need to control yourself in order to get these things: to be loved and approved of. And another part of you feels like food is the only relief you have from the feeling of not being good enough.

The way out is not more control. I learned this on my own journey when I was resolving my emotional eating. I had to go deeper than what I was seeing on the surface. I had to get into the roots of my behaviour in order to actually shift my emotional eating.

So, if your relationship with food feels like you need to restrict it, I can relate. Early in my journey, I really felt I had to restrict food because I felt so out of control with it. I had gotten this idea that if I looked a certain way, I would finally feel loved and accepted and get all the things I wanted.

And my way to get that was to have a certain body to be a certain way. And in order to get that, I needed to control food.
