You can eat perfectly. You can follow the meal plan. You can exercise. You can lose weight. And you can force yourself into the body you think you’re supposed to have.

And you can still feel completely out of control with food and emotionally eat.

Because eating perfectly doesn’t heal trauma.

And forcing yourself into a particular body, into the “perfect” box, doesn’t heal the reason why you thought you had to control yourself in the first place.

Usually, we think that if we can control our behaviour and get to the place we want to, everything will finally be okay.

We’ll finally feel okay.

But what if the need to control food and your body is actually part of the problem?

What if this isn’t a random behaviour?

What if you developed this because, at some point you learned that in order to feel safe, accepted, approved of, or validated, you needed to follow these rules?

What I just shared with you was my story, and its the story of a lot of my clients.

We fit into the box, we got to that perfect pinnacle. We controlled food.

But we still felt out of control.

Even when we reached the place where we thought life would finally feel better, it didn’t.

Because when you build your self-worth and your sense of who you are on something external, whether that’s fitting into the “right” body or controlling your food, you can still feel completely out of control underneath it all.

Because whenever those uncomfortable emotions come up, whenever that distress comes up, you still feel pulled towards food.

Because the deeper issue hasn’t been resolved.
