Growing up I would see family members getting married and ritually donning a body full of turmeric paste the night before the wedding. I thought nothing of it growing up but a few years ago I read about the healing benefits of turmeric and realized the crazy turmeric concoction was not just a weird custom but beautifying!
I’ve come to learn that many ancient cultures knew how to properly use foods to heal the body and create beauty from the inside out.
I firmly believe that beauty comes from the inside out by eating well and nourishing ourselves in a healthy way. Think about it. Everything you eat becomes you! In conjunction with a great diet, I also believe we can do a few things to help our bodies from the outside in.
This turmeric face mask is full of ingredients that you could literally eat. As the adage goes, don’t wear things that you cannot eat as most of the products we wear ends up in our bloodstream (yes, think sunscreen, lead in lipstick, perfumes, colognes, etc). In this mask the most potent ingredient is turmeric which is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant rich, and reduces swelling. Another superstar ingredient is raw honey which is full of enzymes, is moisturizing, antibacterial (great for acne-prone skin) and full of vitamins and minerals. The other two ingredients are chickpea flour which helps to absorb excess oil in the skin and acts as a binding agent, and lastly I have used organic yogurt. While I do not consume dairy, in this recipe it lends itself well to having lactic acid which exfoliates the skin and also contains enzymes that dissolve dirt. This powerful combination of ingredients cleanses the skin, gives it nourishment, and leaves you with a smooth glowing complexion.
please buy organic if possible, makes 2 masks
- 1 tbsp raw honey
- 2 tbsp organic yogurt
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp chickpea flour
1. To make chickpea flour, grind chickpeas in a powerful blender or in a coffee grinder.
2. Add all ingredients together and mix well.
3. Apply to face evenly and leave on for 10-15 minutes or until tingling sensation.
4. Wash off and moisturize if necessary.
5. Enjoy your glow!

Amazing! I was actually thinking today about how I wanted to do an edible facemask – but I’d rather eat avocados than have them on my face! Love this mask – I will definitely be trying this out!
Awesome, glad you’ll be trying it! I feel the same about avocados (duh!) but I will be posting about it as a moisturizing mask in future 😉
