So – no one is really talking about some of the biggest mistakes women make when it comes to emotional eating—because the so-called “solutions” being sold to us are positioned as the magic fix that will help us stop eating all the time and finally reach our goals.

But here’s the truth: they won’t help you get to the root of the issue.

Some of the more surface-level solutions I see all the time are quick-fix diets, intense exercise routines, and relying on willpower. These just don’t work when it comes to emotional eating.

I’ll explain why a bit later.

Relying solely on the healthcare system or community programs also doesn’t get to the deeper emotional roots of this pattern.

Then there’s the suggestion of pills or surgery—because you’ve been made to feel like something is broken or wrong with you. Maybe you’ve even tried intuitive eating, thinking it would help you move away from diets, but you’re still emotionally eating.

Maybe you’ve gone to Overeaters Anonymous and found some temporary relief, but the pattern still hasn’t shifted on a deep level—or worse, you feel retraumatized.

Maybe you’re in talk therapy, and after months of sharing and trying to implement steps, nothing’s really changing.

All of these are common paths that many of the women I work with have tried before we begin our work together. Others have even tried psychedelics, trauma work, or somatic practices—and while these can be powerful, if they aren’t specificto emotional eating, they won’t bring true resolution.

Emotional eating is multi-layered and complex— I’m sharing this not to scare you, but to empower you with the awareness that so much more is going on beneath the surface.

So if you’ve been trying to follow the diet and “just can’t do it,” and you’re beating yourself up, please know: it’s not your fault. There is so much more happening under the surface.
