Hello beautiful!
This week I want to share a special recipe with you. I had this elixir postpartum to help with post birth recovery. Lately, with the weather getting cooler, I have been having it again in the evenings as a cosy treat.
Traditionally, (in Trinidadian culture as well as Indian culture) Golden Milk is given to postpartum women to help them heal and to cleanse the system. It is made with turmeric, milk and honey. In my version I replace the milk with almond milk (you can also use any other alternative) and I also added in black pepper as it increases the bioavailability of curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric) by ~2000%!
Turmeric is an amazing rhizome that is anti-inflammatory. I drank this golden milk postpartum and did not use any conventional anti-inflammatories (read tylenol or advil). My son was also born face up which meant that the hardest part of his head was against my tailbone and should have resulted in a sore behind. I was not in that much pain afterwards and I believe it was because I drank this elixir 2 times a day. Turmeric is that potent!
Turmeric is also great at cleaning the blood which results in more clear and beautiful skin. It also contains antioxidants that will help with aging. Amazing!
