Today we’re going to talk about why emotional eating is often rooted in childhood and why it’s not your fault.

A lot of the time, when we struggle with emotional eating, we believe the problem is a lack of control around food.

But it’s not really about the food.

I want to invite you to consider: what if this is something you learned as a child because your emotions weren’t met with care?

In this video, I’m going to explore why emotional eating isn’t about controlling food, what’s really happening underneath the surface, how healing can begin, and what that might look like for you.

So, why isn’t emotional eating about the food?

If you’re an emotional eater – and I used to be one too – it might feel like, “Why can’t I just stop being out of control with food? Why can’t I just find the perfect diet and finally feel okay?”

But emotional eating is really a coping mechanism. It’s how we deal with discomfort, distress, and difficult emotions.

When we slow down this pattern, we can start to see that it’s not about food at all. We get emotionally triggered, and then we turn to food. On the surface, it looks like we’re just out of control with food. But what’s really happening is that we’re using food to soothe, to escape, to avoid discomfort.

Over time, our brain catches on and it becomes an automatic pattern.
