Hello love,
I wanted to share more on intuitive eating for emotional eaters as it can be confusing. It’s not to say that intuitive eating is wrong. It’s where we want to end up but it’s not the best place to start.
I’ve spoken with women frustrated trying this approach and going towards foods that don’t make them feel good. It’s hard for them to discern their intuition from their emotional hunger.
I can totally relate because when I was on my own emotional eating journey I threw the diet rules out the window and ate whatever I wanted. I had just moved to Korea and was eating a lot of fried foods, etc and didn’t feel any better.
This made me realize I didn’t feel good at either extreme. I had to find a better way.
True Intuitive Eating…
As I put the pieces together I came up with what I call true intuitive eating because I wasn’t aware of intuitive eating back then.
For an emotional eater that has a coping mechanism in place it’s hard to just be intuitive unless you have practical steps to start building up your intuition.
This is especially true if you’ve been on diets and inundated by the diet mentality. It’s hard to move away from that and resolve your emotional eating pattern to tap into your true intuition.
I want to share with you how I found my way to true intuitive eating which follows the steps in The Emotional Eating Evolution Program.
Step 1 – True Nourishment and Strategic Digestion
-as emotional eater we use food to soothe and diets disconnect us rather than resolve this pattern
-discerning true from emotional hunger helps us hone our intuition
-learning to nourish ourselves and satisfy hunger on multiple levels helps as well
-being strategic with our digestion and how we feel after a meal in terms of energy and mood also gives us intuitive insight
Step 2 – Body Acceptance
-as we remove the noise of self criticism and understand our energy levels, movement that feels good and implement rituals to support our body we increase our intuitive awareness
-e.g. having a solid evening ritual so that you sleep more deeply reduces mood imbalances that increase hunger
Step 3 – Emotional Wellness
This last area which really builds up our intuition is the Emotional Wellness Phase.
-Those emotions that we are running away from with food live in the body as they are unprocessed.
-when we resolve emotions they clear out of the body and this will create more clarity and space to hear our intuition more clearly.
-This is the deeper work needed to “hear” your intuition more loudly
Intuition is not just about a flow there needs to be a structure because after so many years of abusing your body with diets, over exercising, etc you need guidance to help you discern what is your true intuition vs. an addictive pattern.
If what I’m saying to you is resonating and is the missing piece in your intuitive eating journey and you are ready to resolve your emotional eating I’d love to invite you to book in an Emotional Eating Assessment call to discuss your goals and how the program can support you.
To true intuition,
