Today I wanted to share with you why detoxification is so important and a few simple ways to detox now.
Our body naturally detoxes. We have several eliminative organs. We detox through our breath, bowels, sweat, urine and via bile (that is dumped into the colon). Our body detoxifies the metabolic wastes we produce but we also detoxify external sources (water, pollution, air fresheners, etc.) of waste. Think about it, if tens of thousands of new chemicals are released into the atmosphere every year it would make sense to up our detox game!
When we boost our detoxification our system it runs much more efficiently. The energy that was being used to detox can be diverted to be used by the body to do more regenerative tasks.

These tips are simple but potent if done consistently. Consistency is the key!
1. Warm Lemon water first thing in the morning. Use freshly squeezed lemons (1/2 lemon to 1 cup of water). Lemons contain enzymes that are similar to liver enzymes. Lemons also contain a large amount of vitamin C that helps to stimulate the bowels (detox!). They also contain minerals that alkalize the system which allows the body to safely release more toxins that may have been stored in fat cells.
2. Keep drinking water throughout the day. For example, I have another litre of water in the morning after my lemon water. Think about it we are about 70% water. We need water to help flush our system (think sweat and urine). Water is also important so that cells are hydrated enough so there is a flow of nutrients into the cell and metabolic waste out of the cell. Drink water so that your urine is pale yellow. 3. Have fresh fruit or vegetables as your first food or meal. Raw fruits and vegetables are the most cleansing foods. They contain enzymes, vitamins, minerals, fibre and water. They tend to be easier to digest and pull out toxicity in the system. Blending them into a smoothie helps to make them even more digestible (but remember to chew)! These tips are simple but potent. Our environment has become more toxic but we don’t have to be. The better we are able to detoxify the better we will feel. We will also have more energy and vibrancy throughout the day.
